Welcome in the Department of Social work of Comilla Victoria Govt. college. This department started its journey under National University in the session of 1994-1995 by admitting 50 students in Masters preliminary course. Honors & Masters courses in social welfare were offered only in Dhaka and Rajshahi University till 1990. Higher education in social welfare was extended after the establishment of National University. Full pledged activities of social work department was started with admission of students in Masters preliminary in 1994-1995, Masters final in 1995-1996, Honors in 1996-1997 in Comilla Victoria Govt. college. Department of Social work is working as one of the most demanding department with 1800 students, 5 full time teacher & 3 part time teachers & 2 office staff. From the session 2004-2005 social welfare department named as social work department. Social work is a helping profession and applied social science. The knowledge of social work is applied for solving Psycho-social problem. Professional Social worker can play an effective role to solve various social problem. In developed countries Social work is recognized as profession. But for some limitation Social work could not achieved the status of profession in Bangladesh. The students of this department have to go through long 60 working days Field work activities. The relation between student and teacher become friendly through this Field work. Along with participating in class the students also take part in many co-curricular activities like study tour, games, sports and cultural competition, scouting, BNCC, debate etc. I hope the glorious success of the department will be continued with the help of all teachers, students and staffs despite of some limitation. ...
